GENERAL COUNCIL OF OSTEOMYOLOGISTS

WELCOME TO THE OSTEOMYOLOGY VOLUNTARY SELF REGULATION (VSR) WORKING GROUP

DUE TO THE EXPECTED FOSTER REPORT ON COMPLEMENTARY HEALTHCARE AND ITS RECOMMENDATIONS, OUR PROPOSALS FOR OUR COUNCIL,  MEMBERS AND BODY ARE AS STATED BELOW

OUR AIMS

Due to the mandate given to us by the majority of The Association of Osteomyology members, our aims are to explore and establish public and professional standards to regulate the practice of Osteomyology in the UK and overseas.

OUR DEFINITION OF OSTEOMYOLOGY

The wording of our profession is Osteomyology or Neurosteomyology, which is a term defined either to mean the study of bone and muscle, or the study of the nervous system, bone and muscle which put together as Osteomyology defines a method of safely treating and healing patients using many and varied safe protocols.  We bring together disciplines discovered and refined by some of the worlds greatest manual medical practitioners which we have combined to produce and mould to our own specific philosophy (see about us).

OSTEOMYOLOGY IS A HEALING ART

That can be experienced by anyone in the normal course of their life, and can bring help and comfort to patients suffering from a range of conditions.  It does not necessarily mean that it is a cure for such conditions, but as a hands-on natural form of healing, can support and help coupled with other forms of treatment.

THE METHOD BY WHICH WE TREAT

The Practitioner requests the patient to be comfortable (either dressed or un-dressed).  A complete case history is taken from the patient and a series of tests are performed to elicit certain results in relation to the problem that the patient presents with.  From these tests and further examination, both standing, sitting and couch lying, our Practitioners will then develop a diagnosis and prognosis, which will encompass the patient as a whole and not just as a symptomatic entity, ensuring that the patient is safe, warm and comfortable at all times.

The patient will then be given a form of treatment which best suits his or her problem using all the varied disciplines at the Osteomyologists command.  The patient will be given a complete explanation as to what treatment will be most appropriate and 'permission to treat' will be asked.  When this authority is obtained the treatment will commence.

OSTEOMYOLOGISTS ARE FULLY TRAINED AND INSURED PRACTITIONERS

Osteomyologists are all trained to a high standard in the practices of manual medical disciplines, and before entry onto the Register is made official, their degree qualifications are rigorously checked.  They all have, at least, one or more degree status qualifications which form the basic foundation of their Osteomyology entry.  Their qualifications and current insurance status makes them Registered Osteomyologists.  This means their names are entered onto an official roll and Register required by law for the use of their protected title 'Osteomyologist'.  They are governed and disciplined by a group of Committees which receive and investigate any complaints from the public and their peers.  They are required to continue their professional training by attending CPD (continuing professional development).  These are mandatory, and a required  amount of hours are devoted to reflective practice and furthering their professional skills.
